Cumbie will get back to lead the Red Raiders from Dec. 13 through their bowl game, games chief Kirby Hocutt told the group Tuesday night. Hocutt said running backs mentor DeAndre Smith will be the “program pioneer” liable for managing the everyday timetable and any training movement before Dec. 13. “Sonny’s consented to do it,” Hocutt said. “Louisiana Tech’s concurred they’re adequate to that arrangement.”
Hocutt said he’s requesting some other part from the 2021 Tech staff that might find a new line of work somewhere else to return and participate in bowl arrangements. Unique groups mentor Mark Tommerdahl has made public that he’s joining Sonny Dykes’ new staff at TCU. Dec. 13 is the beginning of a multi-week dead period for enrolling on the NCAA schedule. That makes it more useful for Cumbie to return and lead the Red Raiders for their last game. Tech will gain proficiency with its bowl objective and rival on Sunday.
“I might want to actually compliment Sonny Cumbie on being named the following lead trainer at Louisiana Tech,” Hocutt said in an assertion Tech delivered. “I think anybody that realizes Sonny can feel the enthusiasm and love he has for Texas Tech University and West Texas, and he brought that consistently this previous year as our hostile facilitator and most as of late as our break lead trainer. “Depend on it, we plan to contend and dominate whatever bowl match we are chosen for the near future. For that to occur, I feel it is to the greatest advantage of our understudy competitors for Coach Cumbie to return and lead our group one last time.” Texas Tech’s Joey McGuire gains ground on staff
Louisiana Tech has called a question and answer session for early afternoon Wednesday to present Cumbie. Hocutt designated Cumbie as interval lead trainer upon the Oct. 25 excusal of Matt Wells. He instructed the Red Raiders in the last four rounds of the ordinary season. Featuring that stretch was a 41-38 bombshell of Iowa State. Tech recruited Joey McGuire on Nov. 8 to be its next lead trainer. McGuire declared on Nov. 24 that he planned to hold Cumbie as hostile organizer. Cumbie will owe Tech a buyout of $250,000 for leaving before his agreement closes on Jan. 31, 2024.
